El operador de máquinas CNC fabrica piezas de distintos tipos de materiales (metal, aluminio, bronce) a través del comando de máquinas CNC (Control Numérico Computarizado). Para programar este tipo de máquinas, necesita conocimientos del modelo CAD/CAM y de metrología para lograr precisión en el mecanizado. Además, lectura de planos y gráficos de mecánica, traducción de instrucciones en comandos informáticos, manejo de las materias primas y componentes en las máquinas, supervisión de la pieza en todo el proceso de fabricación y monitoreo de las máquinas. Las funciones del operador se rigen por normas de calidad, seguridad, medio ambiente y salud ocupacional.
